Digital Certificates

APNIC will no longer be issuing digital certificates for MyAPNIC authentication from 15 October 2019. We will continue to accept certificates that have already been issued for authentication until they expire. Time based One Time Passwords (TOTP) remain available for multifactor authentication.

What are Digital Certificates?

A Digital Certificate is a secure digital key that certifies the identity of the holder. Issued by a Certification Authority (CA), it typically contains your identity (name, email, country, APNIC account name and your public key). APNIC certifies its authenticity. Digital Certificates use Public Key Infrastructure—data digitally signed or encrypted by a private key that can only be decrypted by its corresponding public key. APNIC operates a Certification Authority – we issue Digital Certificates for the APNIC community.

What are APNIC Digital Certificates used for?

Digital Certificates allow Members to securely perform certain privileged functions within MyAPNIC such as:

Online voting in the APNIC elections
Resource Certification
Approving Digital Certificate requests for Non-Corporate Contacts

Digital Certificates can also be used to send or receive secured mail based on the S/MIME (Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) standard.
