Getting ready for IGF 2013, Bali

This year there have been several successful Internet governance events in the region, such as Nethui, PacINET, and the recent APrIGF. All three events emphasized the importance of a multistakeholder approach to Internet governance, with discussions on timely issues featuring the perspectives of governments, the private sector, civil society, academia, and the technical community. The Australia IGF will take place the week before global IGF.

Register today if you plan to attend the global IGF in Bali, and apply for your visa as soon as possible. Check the local host website frequently for more updates!

APNIC is involved in preparations of this year's global event, working closely with the local host and will be participating in workshops as part of the NRO. View the IGF 2013 Schedule online. We'll see you in Bali or online!

Internet governance

2013 APrIGF improved on past events

APNIC supported the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) and Youth IGF, which were held in Seoul, Korea earlier this month. This year's regional event had higher registration, more participants, and even better content than last year, thanks to the work of the Multistakeholder Steering Group, which worked to build a program that would feed into the 2013 global IGF in Bali from 22 to 25 October.

The themed "tracks" at the 2013 APrIGF were Access, Openness, Security, and Enhanced Cooperation. APNIC's Chief Scientist Geoff Huston and Senior IPv6 Program Specialist Miwa Fujii contributed to three IPv6 sessions in the Access track. Video footage of all sessions are available online, and you can read APNIC's summary of the Access Track.

If you want to assist with planning for the 2014 APrIGF in Hyderabad, India, you can read more about how to participate.

APNIC now an Affiliate Member of APT

APNIC is now an Affiliate Member of the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT), a regional intergovernmental organization that is a focal point for Asia Pacific preparatory processes leading up to ITU meetings and conferences.

APNIC participated in the recent 6th APT Policy and Regulation Forum, where Senior Policy Specialist Adam Gosling gave a presentation on IP address management policies.

Reminder to be careful with registry information

Recently, individuals claiming to represent APNIC have contacted some Members, requesting to speak to senior staff regarding non-APNIC matters. This is fraudulent behaviour and of concern as address holders may be convinced to provide details that might facilitate hijacking of registration database records, through theft of authentication or personal identity information.

If you have any queries or information regarding this incident, please contact helpdesk@apnic.net.
