APNIC 20th anniversary

APNIC's Vision and Mission

The APNIC Executive Council (EC) announced a new Vision and Mission for the future of APNIC, now in its 20th year of operation:

"A global, open, stable, and secure Internet that serves the entire Asia Pacific community".

The APNIC EC Chair, Maemura Akinori, said the new Vision statement reflects the role of APNIC in the Asia Pacific Internet ecosystem. Watch Paul Wilson talk about APNIC's core mission in this short video.

APNIC at ICANN 46

APNIC is a Silver sponsor of ICANN 46 in Beijing. If you can't attend in person, you can participate in sessions remotely.

ICANN meetings are free events held three times each year as an opportunity for multistakeholder discussions on running the Internet. APNIC and ICANN are holding an IPv6 Workshop on 10 April. Learn more about APNIC IPv6 activities at www.apnic.net.

Nominate a project for an ISIF Asia Award

ISIF Asia is now accepting nominations for Awards to recognize five innovative projects that use the Internet as a social development tool to promote access, openness, inclusion, and human rights.

Winners will be awarded AUD 3,000 to support the continuation of their project, plus a travel grant to attend the awards ceremony at the 8th Internet Governance Forum in Bali, Indonesia in October 2013.

Thanks for attending APNIC 35

Thanks to everyone who joined us in Singapore or online for APNIC 35 and APRICOT 2013. Have a look at the Conference report for the number of attendees, APNIC EC election results, and other information.

Highlights from the week included the APNIC IPv6 Plenary, where we heard about IPv6 deployment for mobile networks. Watch the session now if you missed it!

The Internet Governance Plenary, held in conjunction with the WSIS+10 Review meeting in Paris, discussed the meaning of enhanced cooperation. This session was held remotely from Paris. You can read the summaries by APNIC and the Paris session moderator, Bertrand de La Chappelle.

We hope to see you at APNIC 36 in Xi'an, China!

Get ready for the 2013 IGF in Bali

The global Internet Governance Forum (IGF) returns to the Asia Pacific in 2013 - this time in Bali, Indonesia from 22 to 25 October 2013! APNIC is a longtime IGF participant and supports the IGF as the best iteration of the WSIS principles and multistakeholder Internet governance discussions. We encourage everyone to participate at national and regional events leading up to the global IGF.

Technical personnel are needed in these discussions to help inform better policy decisions that affect everyone.

In February, APNIC attended the first WSIS+10 Review meeting, hosted by UNESCO, and the IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group Open Consultation, where the theme and format of this year's IGF was discussed. The call for workshop proposals has ended, but if you would like to participate in any workshop as a speaker, you will be able to submit an expression of interest based on your area of expertise. More information to come!

Contact local organizers of Internet governance events in the region to see how you can get involved:

  • NetHui (NZ) organizers at InternetNZ are currently seeking speakers and other volunteers for the New Zealand Internet governance event from 8 to 10 July.
  • Asia Pacific Regional IGF organizers are now accepting suggestions for agenda items for the event in Seoul, Korea from 4 to 6 September.
